CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho football team closed out their spring practice schedule with a spirited Purple and Gold Game at Simplot Stadium, with the offense outlasting the defense, 28-9.

Three quarterbacks combined for 225 yards through the air and three touchdowns, part 405 yards of total offense by the Purple unit.
The Yotes defense was stellar in the first half, not allowing an offensive touchdown in nine possessions. The white-clad defenders struck first midway through the opening period, when Garrett Norris grabbed a deflected Teejay Gordon pass and raced 38-yards to the end zone for a 6-0 lead (no extra point was attempted).
The defense continued their assault in the second quarter, as Ben Ceccarelli recorded an interception and Hunter Temple scooped up a fumble - with Luke Taylor converting a 33-yard field goal to make it 9-0.
After a Nate Moore interception on the first possession of the second half, the Yotes offense found their stride. A.J. Martin led a 63-yard scoring drive, finding Terrence Young for a 49-yard touchdown to get the Purple squad on the board. Tyler Cox followed suit, as the freshman quarterback scrambled 60-yards to set-up an 11-yard touchdown strike to Andy Forse for a 14-9 lead.
Gordon got into the act late in the quarter, orchestrating a 50-yard drive, calling his own number from three-yards out to make it 21-9, then found Austin Diffey from 19-yards out on the final play off the game to close out the scoring.
Martin was 5-of-9 for 82 yards; Cox was 6-of-10 for 77 yards; and Gordon 5-for-14 for 66 yards - with all three quarterbacks throwing a touchdown. Cox led the Yotes with 60 yards rushing on six carries, with Ryan Texeira carrying the ball 11 times for 50 yards. Forse had a team-high four receptions for 45 yards; Young had three catches for 78 yards; and Marcus Lenhardt had three receptions for 55 yards.
Defensively, Jason Byce led the Yotes with nine tackles, Dakota Horsewood had eight tackles, with Trevor Smith adding eight tackles, including a sack and a tackle for loss.
The Yotes ran 81 total offensive plays in the scrimmage - using quarter breaks to work on each facet of special teams.
