Students at Savannah State University in Georgia were mourning Friday after a student was shot to death in the school’s student union building.

Christopher Starks, a junior from metro Atlanta, died at a local hospital after an altercation Thursday night at the union, according to Loretta Heyward, a spokeswoman for the school.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement Friday that the shooting “appears to be an isolated incident.”

The shooter has not been identified, according to the GBI.

The Student Government Association planned a vigil Friday, the Savannah school said.

The university also delayed the start of classes and brought in grief counselors Friday.

The shooting prompted a lockdown Thursday night at the college.

University police and the GBI are handing the case.

“The safety of those who live, study, work and visit Savannah State University remains a top priority – no exceptions,” the college said Friday. “Savannah State University has zero tolerance for violence of any kind.”

CNN’s Shawn Nottingham and Joshua Berlinger contributed to this report.
