Arnold Palmer was an American professional golfer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour, and is one of the few players to have won all four major championships in his career. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. Palmer was born in Youngstown, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he learned to play golf at the age of four. He attended Wake Forest University on a golf scholarship, and turned professional in 1954. He won his first major championship, the 1958 Masters Tournament, and went on to win seven major championships in total. He also won the PGA Tour's money title four times, and was the first golfer to earn more than $1 million in career earnings. Palmer was known for his aggressive style of play, and was one of the most popular players in the sport. He was also a successful businessman, and was involved in the design and construction of numerous golf courses. He was also an avid pilot, and owned several aircraft. Palmer died in 2016 at the age of 87. He was survived by his wife, Winnie, and two daughters.
